Do removable braces hurt?

Removable braces do not hurt.

Removable braces do not hurt. There could be some possible soreness 3 to 5 days after adjustments are made. This is normal as your teeth adjust to the new mould. You may take over-the-counter pain relievers to treat any mild discomfort.

Can I eat normally while wearing removable braces?

Removable braces offer convenience and flexibility. Just take your removable brace off during meals, brushing and flossing as well as playing sport or musical instruments.

Although you can remove your brace during meals, it’s important to wear it for the recommended 22 hours per day to ensure best results and a faster treatment time.

How can I properly care for my teeth during treatment?

Here are some reminders to take proper care of both your teeth and removable braces during treatment:

  • Brush at least twice a day and use fluoride toothpaste. (It’s best to carry a toothbrush with you whenever you head out.)

  • Use a daily fluoride rinse every night after brushing your teeth.

  • Remove your brace for cleaning and when playing contact sports.

  • When playing sport, you may remove your appliance and wear a gum shield instead.

  • Refrain from flicking the brace up and down with your tongue. (This can deform the wires and delay your treatment progress.)

  • When you’re not wearing your brace, make sure to always store it in its protective case to avoid accidentally throwing it away or losing it.

How long will treatment take?

Treatment can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months depending on the complexity of the case. It is always best to stick to your routine check-ups, whether remotely or at our practice, to ensure your treatment goes as planned.
