What are the types of braces?
Here are some types of braces we work with:
Removable appliances: These appliances use wires and springs to gradually move teeth through gentle pressure. Commonly used by younger patients, they provide the convenience of removability for sport, music practise and brushing or flossing.
Functional appliances: These devices are ideal for younger patients to help improve their bite. They can ensure that the jaws grow properly, and provide facial symmetry and harmony.
Fixed appliances: These appliances use small brackets affixed to the teeth and linked together through orthodontic wires called archwires. Held together with small elastics, this system provides pressure to align the patient’s smile.
To progress through treatment with fixed braces, patients will come to our practice for regular adjustment appointments where their Specialist Orthodontist will place precise bends in their archwires to guide the teeth into the desired positions.
